Tom Mason
Tom is the Chief Executive Officer of the Pharo Foundation, where he focuses on three missions: empowering the next generation, solving water scarcity, and driving economic productivity across the African continent. These are implemented through economic development programs, long term moonshot projects, and investments in profitable businesses, transitioning along the non-profit and for-profit continuum.
Over the last decade, Tom led Dudutech, which became Bioline Agrosciences Africa, serving as Managing Director and subsequently as Regional Business Unit Director for Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania. In this role, he also acted as an Executive Committee (ExCo) member of the Bioline AgroSciences group. Prior to this, Tom held the position of Regional Manager at Pfizer’s Agricultural Business and later co-founded Biobox, where he served as General Manager and eventually Managing Director.
Tom grew up along the coasts of Kenya and Tanzania. His educational journey began at Pembroke House in Kenya and Hilton College in South Africa. He went on to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of Cape Town and was subsequently selected for the Stanford University Graduate School of Business SEED Endowment Scholarship and the McKinsey Management Program. He later earned an MBA from INSEAD, studying across its campuses in France, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi.
In his personal life, Tom has always enjoyed taking on new challenges and exploring the world. He has had the privilege of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from Cape Town to Brazil, crossing Africa by motorbike, summiting Mount Kilimanjaro, and riding across Namibia’s Skeleton Coast on horseback. In his spare time, he appreciates the outdoors through activities like polo, kite surfing, and fishing, and is a certified PADI Scuba Dive Master.
